SKULLZIE SEZ:
Cleverly disguised as and Irish
pub suffering from a light bulb
shortage, this Event is actually
a time machine! I’m not kidding.
As soon as you walk through the
doors of the Venue, you will be
effortlessly transported to the
dawn of Goth-dom...also known as
the 1980’s. You don’t believe
me? Then I have four words for
you: Fog Machine and Lasers!!!
The Berlin
Event is notably a "comeback
kid" after several years of
absence form the goth scene...a
resurrection, if you will.
Berlin had a great following
"back in the days," and it
should unquestionably find the
same at present day...especially
for it’s pure Goth style, only
matched by Necromantic.
"But it’s all the way out in
Queens. Eww!" you are probably
saying to yourself right about
now. Well, yes, the event
is located in the borough of
Queens, but it is probably
closer to you than some of the
Manhattan based Events! Situated
only a stone’s throw away from
midtown’s Queensborough Bridge,
the Venue (called Breffini’s
now, but will change to Rogue in
the near future) is very easy to
get to. Take the number 7 train
(you know...the purple line!) to
the quickly attained 40th Street
stop, exit on the North side of
Queens Blvd. and you are there!
How easy was that? Plus, as a
bonus, there are plenty of cabs
all too eager to drive into the
city to be found on Queens Blvd.
if you are concerned about that
issue.
But enough about that...let’s
talk music! The organizer of
this Event, Victor (who also
organizes Dead Heaven and the
BdsM Lounge), will usually start
the night off by cuing his songs
before handing the booth over to
his impressive roster of guest
DJs, which include to date: DJ
Templar, DJ Jet, DJ Resorector,
and DJ Belladonna...just to name
a few. Berlin’s "official" music
stamp is: Gothic Synthpop
Industrial Alternative, but that
description leaves quite a large
paint-stroke. A better way to
describe the music that flows
darkly throughout the space is
to imagine back in the late 70’s
and early 80’s (yes, ancient
history for most...but some of
us oldsters where alive back
then!) when Goth was budding and
the music that stemmed from it
was almost experimental as it
morphed from Punk, New Wave,
with a strange connection to
Glam...and of
course...originating in England.
This made for some very
interesting music! And this is
precisely what you have here at
Berlin...some pretty damn
interesting music!!! Plus, they
also throw in some industrial
here and there to keep you
moving. Did I mention the
Lasers? If you are a true
fanatic of Goth music, you
simply cannot miss one night of
this weekly Event! I
guarantee you will be saying
things like, "Wow! I haven’t
heard this songs in years!" and
"Holy shit! I loved this song!"
at least 10 times during the
night. And do you know why you
will be saying those things?
Huh...do ya’? That’s
right...because you've stepped
into a time machine! Enjoy your
trip back!!! |
