NOSFERATU
(1922) |
|
|
Synopsis:
An unauthorized production of Bram
Stoker's work (The legal heirs
didn't give their permission), so
the names had to be changed. But
this wasn't enough: The widow of
Bram Stoker won two lawsuits (1924
and 1929) in which she demanded the
destruction of all copies of the
movie, however happily copies of it
were already too widespread to
destroy them all. Later, the
Universal studios could break her
resistance against this movie. Count
Orlok's move to Wisburg (Obviously
the real "Wismar") brings the plague
traceable to his dealings with the
Realtor Thomas Hutter, and the
Count's obsession with Hutter's
wife, Ellen the only one with the
power to end the evil.

DRACULA
(1931) |
|
|
Synopsis:
After a harrowing ride through the
Carpathian mountains in eastern
Europe, Renfield enters castle
Dracula to finalize the transference
of Carfax Abbey in London to Count
Dracula, who is in actuality a
vampire. Renfield is drugged by the
eerily hypnotic count, and turned
into one of his thralls, protecting
him during his sea voyage to London.
After sucking the blood and turning
the young Lucy Weston into a
vampire, Dracula turns his attention
to her friend Mina Seward, daughter
of Dr. Seward who then calls in a
specialist, Dr. Van Helsing, to
diagnose the sudden deterioration of
Mina's health. Van Helsing,
realizing that Dracula is indeed a
vampire, tries to prepare Mina's
fiancé, John Harker, and Dr. Seward
for what is to come and the measures
that will have to be taken to
prevent Mina from becoming one of
the undead.

FRANKENSTEIN
(1931) |
|
|
Synopsis:
An obsessed scientist creates a
living being from parts of exhumed
corpses. No longer so much a movie
as it is a genuine part of popular
folklore, the film itself shows its
age, particularly in the absence of
a musical score. But the
performances by Colin Clive and
particularly the great Boris Karloff
are the whole show here, forgiving a
multitude of creaks and groans and
more than compensating for any lulls
in the narrative. Truly a film
everyone should see at least once.

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE
SHOW (1975) |
|
|
Synopsis:
What do a Transylvanian
transvestite, a
cryogenically-preserved motorbiker
and a Frankenstein's monster wearing
golden underpants all have in
common? They're all crucial parts of
Rocky Horror Picture Show, the
comedy cult classic which is at once
hysterical, indispensable and truly
disturbing. Innocent young lovers
Brad and Janet are stranded when
their car breaks down, so they are
forced to seek refuge in the castle
of the bizarre Dr. Frankenfurter,
who is having a gathering of some
kind... What ensues is an
unforgettable night of music and
madness where, like a circus act,
you never know what's going to come
next. Adding to the madness is the
narration of the soporific
Professor, who, in omnipotence,
recounts the whole story from the
comfort of his genteel study. Of
course, there are pre-designed spots
for audience participation - from
being doused with spray bottles to
throwing popcorn at the screen to
getting up from your seat and
dancing along to the incomparable
"Time Warp". By the end of the
night, fantasies will be realities,
men will be women and everything
will be explained - or will it?!?!?

Synopsis:
Is becoming a woman analogous, in
some deep psychological way, to
becoming a werewolf? Ginger is 16,
edgy, tough, and, with her younger
sister, into staging and
photographing scenes of death.
They've made a pact about dying
together. In early October, on the
night she has her first period,
which is also the night of a full
moon, a werewolf bites Ginger.
Within a few days, some serious
changes happen to her body and her
temperament. Her sister Brigitte,
15, tries to find a cure with the
help of Sam, a local doper. As
Brigitte races against the clock,
Halloween and another full moon
approach, Ginger gets scarier, and
it isn't just local dogs that begin
to die.
