MANHATTAN BISTRO

129 Spring Street (btw. Wooster & Greene Sts.) N.Y.C.

SUBWAYS:

to the Spring Street station.

to the Prince Street station.

Note of Interest:

This small restaurant is rumored to be haunted by the spirit of a certain Elma Sands who was murdered in 1799 and thrown into a well which is now located in the restaurant's basement. Can anyone say: Ringu (The Ring)?

TIMES SQUARE

Broadway (Btw. 42nd & 47th Sts. ) N.Y.C.

SUBWAYS:

Note of Interest:

Most of you would never even think of stepping foot in a place concentrated with so many mundane Day Crawlers...and you are right! However, if you spend just five minutes here, and swim within the myriad of mainstream commercialism run amok, all of your inner Gothy-ness will be recharged like being hit by a huge bolt of lightning!!!

THE OLD & NEW CALVARY CEMETERY

49-02 Laurel Hill Blvd., Woodside, QNS (Official Address)

SUBWAYS:

to the 52nd St/Roosevelt Ave. station., walk South one block past Queens Blvd. (Careful! A very deadly Blvd.!!!)

Note of Interest:

One of the biggest and oldest cemetery in the U.S., it spans over two main areas. The Old Calvary Cemetery (to the west) has, understandably, the more ornate gravestones and tombs, but it is more difficult to get to without a car (please use map on the left for reference). Buried here are Mobsters, Politicians, Military Heroes, Entertainers, and the average New Yorker corpse.

CLEOPATRA'S NEEDLE IN CENTRAL PARK

By Central Park Drive East, directly behind the MET Museum

SUBWAYS:

to the 81st St./Museum of Natural History station.

Note of Interest:

If you look at the satellite view on the left, it's that pointy thing right in the middle. One of three red granite obelisks (the other two are in Paris and London) that are misnamed since they have little, if no, connection to Queen Cleopatra. They are, however genuine Egyptian obelisks dating back to around 1450 B.C. and hailing from the Egyptian City of Heliopolis and are inscribed with hieroglyphics.

although, there is a small surge in smoothie stores popping up. Hmmm....  PLUS: Find Trash & Vaudeville here!

THE CLOISTERS

Fort Tryon Park @ the Northern tip of Manhattan

SUBWAYS:

to the Dyckman Street station.

Note of Interest:

Located all the way uptown, the Cloisters is actually a branch of the Metropolitan Museum and contains about 5,000 works of art and architecture from the European Medieval period. Since the location is so far North, it is the city's most overlooked museum attraction...but one of the most pristine and transporting! You'll feel as though you've stepped back in time to the 14th Century...if you're into that sort of thing.

If you know of a cool & dark tourist attraction that would be a good fit here, send us the info at contact@newgothcity.com and we'll check it out!
